Geek Squad?
Computer Nerds? No!
Computer Repair
by Real Computer Geeks!Need Service Now? Call 410-515-3309
Who are the people at Cox Network & PC Services? We are
Computer Geeks, but we are not
like The Geek Squad even though we come to your home or office to
provide computer and network support services. The Cox Network
& PC Services difference
is experience & efficiency.
The owner, Rob Cox, is a true expert geek guru with over 20 years of
experience working with personal computers, 8 years as a webmaster and
internet marketing consultant, 7 years in telecom consulting, and over
10 years in business providing computer repair & consulting.
Rob is the "Chief Geek & Problem Solver" here at Cox Network
& PC Services and
would like Cox Network & PC Services to be your personal
computer geek or your companies'
virtual CIO (chief information officer).
SELLING STUFF?
We are Computer Geeks, but we are not like The Geek Squad or geeks on
call or geek tech or geeks to go or call a geek or rent a geek or dial a nerd. The
Geek Squad is owned by Best Buy,
and The Geek Squad was a very good
company of real geeky computer techs before they were acquired by Best
Buy. I don't knock the competition; I prefer to stand on my own
advantages. The main advantage that Cox Network & PC Services
offers is experience and efficiency.
So what does that mean for you? We think it means faster service for
you with less time spent on site - if we are able to complete a job
faster then you end up paying less. You also get the job done right the
first time - because of our years of experience we generally
troubleshoot & diagnose the problems properly and quickly.
We are
not a big seller of computer "stuff". Best Buy and other big box stores
are an OK place to buy computers from and we will be glad to tell you what you really need, not sell you stuff that we make commissions on. You can buy Dell
& HP computers from links on this website, but frankly those links are just there as a convenience. We make money providing expert services at a middle of
the road price.
HISTORY
I started using an IBM compatible PC in February 1988, but had used
other personal computers before that time, and had even used a
Commodore 64 to run a small business. In late 1988 I started a software
distribution company called Gold Star Software and sold shareware
diskettes all over the world from advertisements in Computer Shopper
magazine, and from local computer shows. That business later died out
because of the internet, and I have no affiliation with the current
company called Gold Star Software. At the same time I was running a
process serving business (serving summonses and subpoenas for
attorneys). I decided to get into the Information Technology industry
full time in early 1997 and took a 400 hour training course from a
local community college. My company name when I first started in 1997
was Cox Technical Services. The company was later renamed Cox PC
Services, and then Cox Network & PC Services. I worked for Best Buy and myself in 1997 and 1998 (Yes, I had a very good
experience working for them in their multi-state service center south
of Baltimore, MD) until I got recruited (February 1998) by the same
training company that trained me at the community college. They sent me
all over the country to train computer and networks techs. From 1998 to
2003 I trained over 400 people how to be computer and network
technicians for that company and two other companies that I contracted
with. I was an adjunct professor at partner colleges all over the USA.
I also trained over 100 people in web design. I also continued working
for myself on the side for both individual residential clients and
business clients while traveling to teach. From this experience of
training, I can tell you that only 12-15% of new technicians really
"get" the troubleshooting process and really understand what needs to
be done. The rest are just practicing on you until they "get it", if
they ever do. Since 2003 we have been providing services in the central
Maryland Baltimore Metropolitan area to hundreds of business and
residential clients. Running these businesses has allowed me to develop
systems and business processes to ensure customer satisfaction and
timely, & efficient provision of services.
NERDS OR GEEKS?
We are simply computer geeks, not computer nerds, but computer geeks.
Nerds dress funny and are socially inept. Geeks are professional
technicians. (Of course, there are some of us that are both! Ha Ha.) Computer geeks love working with people and companies who
are having problems with their computers & networks. We don't
require black ties or white shirts or glasses with tape or pocket
protectors. We just require googobs of technical knowledge applied
intelligently. We require constant reading to stay on top of the
changes in industry. We require honesty in advising our customers, even
if it is not to our advantage. We require real world technical
& business experience from our techs.
This is not just some marketing hoohah; it really is the way we work.
We want you to be our customer for the rest of your life. We want to
earn your business with great service and great advice. We want to be
your trusted advisor in all things technical. We truly want to help you
get the best value for your investment in information technology
& telecommunications.

Thanks for reading this. As you can tell I am passionate about being a
computer geek, and isn't that what you really want; someone who really
cares about being the best computer geek they can be (as well as
speaking English - not geekish)?
